Tips to protect your baby’s skin

As we all know, the skin is the first defense against the external world. Baby’s skin is much thinner than the adult’s skin. That means it is more delicate and soft. It is more vulnerable to environmental changes like changes in humidity and temperature. Therefore babies’ skin are more prone to infection, allergies, and rashes. Tips to protect your baby’s skin

It is very essential to take care of baby’s skin. It is advisable not to use adult skincare products. A baby’s skin is also susceptible to allergies triggered by the use of harsh products. Harsh shampoos, chemical soaps, and overbathing should be avoided.

Here is a list of baby skin care tips and home remedies that will keep your baby’s skin protected

CLEANING
New born’s skin coated with a white wax called vernix which peels slowly during the first weeks after birth. This is one of the easy tips that you may follow.

Give a sponge bath to your baby during the initial weeks with particular attention to the mouth and diaper area of the baby.

BATHING
Over bathing can hamper the baby’s sin and take off natural oil resulting in dryness. Bathing a baby 3 -4 times a week may be adequate. Use a mild soap and lukewarm water to bathe the baby. Be very sure about the temperature of the room, it should be warm enough to protect him from a chill or a cold. Use a soft towel to pat dry the baby’s skin.

MILK AND TURMERIC/GRAM FLOUR BODYPACK
Use raw milk and add turmeric and gram flour, mix them together, and prepare a smooth paste. Apply the paste all over your baby’s body and keep it on for 5-10 minutes. Wipe it off with a clean towel.

Milk is rich in Vitamin A, D, B12, Lactic acid, biotin along with essential nutrients. It acts as a natural cleanser and hydrates the skin. Turmeric reduces the scars and even tones the skin while gram flour gives an instant glow to the skin.

OATMEAL SCRUB
Use natural home remedies such as oatmeal body scrub for your baby’s bath. Mix oats and lukewarm water with honey and make a fine paste and use it as a body scrub during bath.

The amino acid present in oatmeal fights skin discoloration and dullness. Oatmeal has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that soothe the skin and help the skin glow. This scrub exfoliates the skin without being harsh on your baby’s delicate skin.

COCONUT OIL
Massage your baby with warm coconut oil at least once a day. It helps improve skin elasticity and boosts blood circulation. The oil easily penetrates easily into the baby’s skin and thus provides hydration that improves skin tone and texture. Coconut oil has other benefits for skin

It lightens the skin and even tones the skin
It reduces dark spots.
It also moisturizes the skin, reduces inflammation, and prevents infection.

OLIVE OIL
Packed with antioxidants, olive oil protects your baby’s skin from harmful UV rays and fights the effects of free radicals. Olive oil has the following skin benefits also:-

It is an excellent moisturizer that is known to cure almost all skin related issues.
It can also be used as a diaper rash treatment for your little one.

MUSTARD OIL
Mustard oil is very beneficial for your baby’s skin as it helps remove tan dark spots, treating rashes and improving complexion, it also acts as a natural sunscreen.

ICE
Ice is very good to help with the itch associated with many childhood rashes, including bug bites,” says Cambio, who recommends putting the ice in a zippered plastic bag. But “always check with your doctor if the rash is spreading or is accompanied by a fever.”

PETROLEUM JELLY
It can be used to help heal dry, chapped skin. “Petroleum jelly is considered an emollient,” says Cambio. “It helps to trap moisture in the skin, thus hydrating it.” Petroleum jelly acts as a barrier between the diaper and the skin and thus helps in reducing diaper rash.

GLYCERINE
Glycerin has the property to lock moisture in along and various other benefits such as prevention of dryness and irritation, cell renewal, skin brightening, etc. It is recommended not to use glycerine directly on your little one’s skin. You can dilute it by adding rose water or mix it with your baby’s regular moisturizer or body oil.
